The 4,800sf home positions a modest footprint on a small property with a detached garage, outdoor gathering space, and intimate landscape. The Overlook House is comprised of one traditionally proportioned primary mass that is augmented by modern elements that come together to create a familiar local styling slimmed down to its purest form. This interplay of traditional massing with modern details combines the function of historic Mid-Atlantic forms with the streamlined simplicity of contemporary design. Large, cantilevered overhangs form prominent datum lines drawing focus around the house while creating subtle structural complexity that brings an additional layer of intrigue to passersby.

The home’s design strives to strike a balance between thoughtful architectural intervention and intentional reservation that satisfies a minimalist palette without becoming sterile. The interior finish draws inspiration from a blank canvas ready to receive an artist’s touch; a vessel to showcase the Owner’s carefully curated art and furniture without asserting itself to either the inhabitants or the neighborhood. Tailored processions through interior spaces highlight thoughtful details at every turn providing moments of character and subtle experiences that elevate the house to a home.
